A Ugandan AIDS Orphan

AIDS Orphan Postcards?

I have 30 to 40 pictures similar to this »

that were taken just prior to Christmas, 2008 at an orphanage for AIDS children (their parent's died of AIDS) in Uganda.

Pastor Ivan, the man who runs this orphanage, planned to have a Christmas party for the kids. He and the kids glued cardboard to the back of each photograph and sent them to me. It was my plan to see if I could get some people to make donations in return for a postcard. It woud have been similar to the refrigerator cards that missionaries sometimes give out at churches. Ivan sent the cards.

A week before Christmas I had to leave town to visit family in Seattle. The cards had not arrived. Ivan told me they were $160 short for the costs they had planned for the party. I was bummed. These kids had not only lost their parents to AIDS, but now...no Christmas party. I decided to just send Ivan the money, via Western Union. So you're probably wondering why I'm even writing this?

I was thinking this situation could actually turn into something better. Hey, the money for the Christmas cards has been sent and the kids had a nice party. I was hoping some of you would be willing to just donate a couple dollars for one of these postcards. One cup of @starbucks. Come on. It would feed them for like a week. Don't quote me on that, but money goes a LOT farther there than here. In return for your donation, I'll send you one of the postcards.

Here's the good part...I'm not even going to ask you to send the money to me. Send it to Ivan. I'll cover the postage.

Here is the address where you can send your donation:

Postal Mail:
OURKIDS-Uganda
Pastor Ivan Baleeta
P. O. Box 1800
Jinja - UGANDA

Western Union:
Ivan Baleeta Ourkids-uganda 0753159925

Send your mailing address to me, via:

http://is.gd/3nwN and I'll send you your postcard.

As I said, though, I have 30 to 40 postcards. If, by chance, that many of you respond, I will confirm a postcard is available for you. Don't send any money with the expectation of receiving one of these postcards unless you receive a confirmation email directly from me. If receiving a postcard doesn't matter that much, and you feel moved to help, feel free to just send Ivan some money to help the kids.

If you can help, great! If not, that's okay. Thanks for just listening.
